OCR Exemplar Material
Minimal level 1 10-23 marks | Basic level 2 24-35 marks | Proficiency level 3 36-47 marks | Excellence level 4 48-60 marks
Framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate | The shot has been taken from a middle shot distance. Framed nicely and positioned well.
Using a variety of shot distances as appropriate | Use of many pictures, but pictures usually only contain the same person in the same clothes and with a guitar.
Shooting material appropriate to the task set | They have shot relevant material as they have included a guitar and instruments. This helps with the genre of the magazine.
Selecting mise-en-scene including colour, lighting, objects and setting | Again the use of guitar and instruments help. The lighting isn’t very varied; also the setting doesn’t change much.
Manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing | There doesn’t seem to be much cropping and resizing involved as the pictures are mainly the same.
Accurately using language and register | The language used is not accurate at all and the register suits the genre of the magazine. There are continuous spelling mistakes and errors.
Appropriately integrating illustration and text | The text has been integrated well but the text doesn’t suit the genre of the magazine.
Showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design | The editor has laid out his page well. But the fonts are useable with the black background.
Showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size | There is little to no variety of texts and fonts, the sizes do vary but no enough to notice. Overall not great.
Using ICT appropriately for the task set | ICT has been used to minimal effect and the use of effects and ICT editing is overall quite poor. They lack the skills to fully edit their work and it has shown. |
MusicKing Magazine – Overall the Musicking magazine has taken a range of photos that work quite well, it is the editing and layout that let the magazine down, there has been a poor attempt made and it is obvious.

Magazine Pitch
My magazine pitch went to plan and overall very well. I had created my magazine pitch on powerpoint and presented it to the class and teacher who was filming me. I had planned what i was going to say when i was presenting and this made it easier as i did not have to think too much onthe spot. I believe that my pitch portrayed a clear idea of what i want my magazine to look like and what i would like it to contain. I think that my pitch was very successful as i didn't confuse any of the class, this shows that i was straight forward in showing what i wanted to do. When it came to the questions i felt prepared and was at ease when i was quizzed. The questions helped give me a better understanding of the audience and what they would like. It also showed that they were curious about a few aspects of my magazine, asking about photo shooting ideas and what i would like my final piece to look like. I took on board the evaluation and it will help with a few tweeks on my final piece.
Representation of a social group within my magazine
Inside my magazine a social group has and will be represented. Fiftyone is aimed at youths, mainly at the age of 15-25, but there are many other audiences who listen to my genre. This main group of people will have a knowledge of the Rock/Alternative music included in my magazine and will be keen listeners of the same sort of bands/artists. They will be laid back but also will love a song that can get them out their seat, they will have a broad range of music within the genre of my magazine. For instance Kasabian who are a local band and The Black Keys who are a band of Rock/Alternative rock from America. The fashion in my magazine is indie/rock. For example the people who listen to the music included in my magazine might be dressed in checkered shirt and jeans or a casual T-shirt and chinos.
The readers are likely to play an instrument; one which fits the genre of the magazine, a guitar or drums would fit perfectly. The readers will range from teenagers to young adults, they may attend a school or college or perhaps have a job. This is the target audience i am aiming my magazine at.
