Magazine Analysis - Rebel - Matt Needham

Framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate | Brilliant photo on the front cover and good use of props and setting, e.g. leather jacket and old ware house. Very clear on genre and very good quality work. | |||
Using a variety of shot distances as appropriate | There is a variety of shots included each with the same precision as the last. There is a variety of locations and props. | |||
Shooting material appropriate to the task set | The material shot is very relevant to the genre and title of the magazine. The use of editing to the pictures and the lighting used makes it looks very professional. | |||
Selecting mise-en-scene including colour, lighting, objects and setting | The lighting and colours used work very well with the 3 colour palette. The use of the greens and brick colours work great with the black. | |||
Manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing | The editing and resizing makes the pictures fit perfectly and the use of the slightly faded and darker background helps the main image stand out. | |||
Accurately using language and register | There is a few spelling mistakes but other than that it is a very convincing article and has a real ‘rebel’ feel to it. | |||
Appropriately integrating illustration and text | The illustrations used suit the magazine excellently. They stand out and separate the text. | |||
Showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design | The layout of the page compliments the pictures as they show them off and the writing stands out against the dark colours. | |||
Showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size | There is a large variety of fonts and texts that stops the magazine fonts getting monotonous and boring. | |||
Using ICT appropriately for the task set | The ICT used is appropriate to the task and the skills included are very precise and he has shown a range of ICT techniques. |
Rebel Magazine – Overall Rebel magazine has used a range of photographs very well and the editing is exquisite. Everything included is relevant and makes it easy to figure out the genre and what the artist on the front stands for. This is a great magazine.
